In this world there is always a person who inspires us and becomes our role model. Each one admires that personality very much. Undoubtedly we admire our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) a lot as we can lead our lives perfectly, if we follow his personality, teachings and sayings. And also it is highly recommended to follow in each and every Muslim. The second influential personalities after our Prophet (P.B.U.H) in our lives are our parents who guide us completely throughout our lives.
Dr Zakir Abdul-Kareen Naik is a professional medical doctor. He is also a popular dynamic international lecturer on Islam and comparative religion. Moreover he is the founder and president of Islamic Research Foundation, Mumbai, and the founder of peace TV Network. He has learned hundreds and thousands of pages from different books by heart and has the knowledge of scientific and mathematical facts and theories. His strong personality is famous to the world for the critical analysis and convincing the challenging questions with the exact references of holy Quran, authentic hadiths of prophet (P.B.U.H) and other religious scriptures as a basis, in conjunction with reason, logic and scientific facts. He conducted several Da’wah training Programmes including International Da’wah Training Programmes for training Muslims to effectively convey the message of Islam. He has successfully participated in several symposia and dialogues with the famous personalities of other faiths. He appears regularly on many TV channels more than 200 countries in the world. He has delivered more than 1300 public talks outside India including Maldives. His main mission and life is to make proper clarification as well as removing misconception about Islam. As a result of delivering analytic speeches around the world, he has acquired several achievements nationally and internationally (IRF, nd.).
Most of the motivation of any human would be the achievement. Dr zakir was accrued many of such an achievements to his work. Firstly, “In the issue dated 22nd Feb. 2009 of the Indian Express list of the “100 Most Powerful Indians in 2009” amongst the billion plus population of India, Dr. Zakir Naik was ranked No. 82. In the special list of the “Top 10 Spiritual Gurus of India” Dr. Zakir Naik was ranked No. 3, after Baba Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, being the only Muslim in the list.” (IRF, nd.). Secondly, Dr. Zakir Naik stood out most eloquently for Islam and Muslims in the present times on one of the leading and most respected News Channel of India, NDTV 24 x 7, during the ‘Guest this week’ interview programme “Walk the Talk” conducted by host Shekhar Gupta (Editor-in-Chief of Indian Express) telecast on 7th and 8th March 2009. (IRF, nd.). Thirdly, “Sheikh Ahmed Deedat, the world famous orator on Islam and Comparative Religion, who had called Dr. Zakir, "Deedat plus" in 1994, presented a plaque in May, 2000 awarded to Dr. Zakir Abdul-KarimNaik for his achievement in the field of Da’wah and the study of Comparative Religion with the engraving "Son what you have done in 4 years had taken me 40 years to accomplish, Alhamdulillah.” (IRF, nd.). There were more achievements of zakir Naik in his field. His most important achievement of his work is converting huge number of other faiths people to Islam.
Any person who becomes more popular around the world definitely would face lots of challenges. The difficulties that were faced to Islamic orators are very common today. Dr. Zakir Naik also faced such a challenges. One of them is report on the daily news of Maldives saying that “The Maldivian man who declared his “non-Muslim” status to the public during the Q&A session of a lecture given by Indian scholar Dr Zakir Naik Friday evening has reverted to Islam” (Haveeru Daily, 2006). Also the news in the official website of BBC which says that “An Indian Muslim preacher has been banned from entering the UK for his “unacceptable behavior”, the home secretary says (BBC.uk, 2010). There are more such article published against him, all of those article and unethical actions are non-Muslim propagandas. But he has been continuing his journey without stopping those unethical actions against him.
Dr. Zakir was participated many dialogues and controvertsies. “His most famous debate was a public dialogue with William Campbell, a Christian missionary from the united states, on the topic of “The Quran and the bible in the light of science”, which was held in Chicago, Illinois on April 1, 2000” (Wikipedia, 2011). “I n 2004, he visited New Zealand and the Australian capitals at the invitation of Islamic Information and Services Network of Australia. In this conference in Melbourne, according to a famous journalist Sushi Das, he extolled the moral and spiritual superiority of Islam”(Wikipedia, 2011).“In December 2005, he took part in a debate with Dr William Campbell; the topic was “Islam and Christianity in the light of science”, where both discussed perceived scientific errors in the scriptures. At the end of the database a weary William Campbell was unable to answer any of the allegations that Dr. Zakir Naik raised about the bible. However, Zakir Naik was able to clear all the misconception about the Quran” (Wikipedia, 2011).“On 21 January 2006, he held an inter-religious dialogue with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The event was about “the concept of god in Islam and Hinduism”, the aim being to bring understanding between the two major religious of India, and at the best to point out the commonalities between both Islam and Hinduism, such as how idolatry is prohibited. It was held in Bangalore, India with up to 50,000 attending at the Palace Ground” (Wikipedia, 2011). Dr. Zakir is not famous only as a public speaker. But he has authored many books on Islam and comparative religion in order to preach Islam and remove misconceptions about it especially in the Non-Muslim’s minds. The names of some of the books authored by him are, Replies to the most common questions asked by non-muslims, Qurans and modern science, Concept of god in major religions, Islam and terrorism, Women’s rights in islam (protected or subjected?), Al-Quran (should it be read with understanding?) and is the Quran god’s word.
Every person has different characters and personalities and it varies from person to person. Dr. Zakir Naik has excellent personalities which make him perfect to be considered as a role model. The reason I admire Dr. Zakir Naik is his personality, intelligence and his role in delivering Da’wah to all over the world. Respecting other peoples believes is the most admired behavior of him. Majority of his debates and speeches are targeted on non-Muslim audience. In such debates he had faced so many difficult arguments, unethical comments from the audience. However the way he deal such situations made them respect him. The development of Dr: Zakir’ Naik’s Family is another excellent quality of his personality. The speeches delivered by his son and wife are an instance of his quality. His wife Farhath Naik and son Fariq Zakir Naik (16years) also delivers speeches in many international audiences today. Finally with the help of his personality I can build up my personal characters as well as my carrier.
If any person wants copy the characters of any prominent person should seek only the good characters of him or her. Every person has good and bad characters. And these characters might vary applicable from different people. I always look for the good characters of Dr. Zakir, and try to apply those good characters in to my life. The patience, discipline, respect to others, are excellent characters that are highly required for all the people in every societies. Dr. Zakir Naik has several of excellent characters. Even though it’s not possible to apply all of his good characters in my life due to my profession and less experience. I try my best to apply as many good characters of him. I spend most of my time reading Islamic documents, books and watching video lectures of Islamic scholars to get to know more about the my religion, Islam. Mostly I watch lectures of Dr. Zakir Naik’s public lectures and read his books and articles. I always try to share these lectures with my junior staffs as to guide them to the right path with these rich sources.
In conclusion, I would say even though anyone who considers a person as your role model, not all of his/her characters should be copied. But we can do researches and try to include our role models good characters in our life. Dr. Zakir Naik has thousands and millions of fans which have very positive thinking about him and his dedicated work. Hence I would say Dr. Zakir Naik is a person who has excellent characters and a perfect person to take as a role model. I pray almighty God Allah to bless him more strength of knowledge and patience to do this noble task.
